42 years ago on this day, David Bowie changed the world of rock. He, bassist Tony Visconti, guitarist and future Spider From Mars Mick Ronson, and drummer John Cambridge took the stage of The Roundhouse to perform as a band called The Hype. This performance has gone down in rock history as the first glam rock performance ever. This was where Bowie first developed a stage character Rainbowman, setting the stage for the later, more committed characters like Ziggy Stardust. Clad in capes, tights, and platform boots, these four men set the example for glam rockers for decades to come.
Thank you David Bowie, for showing the world what glam rock could be!
